The Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä (JYY) aims to become carbon neutral by 2025. The Student Union has set as its target a 7.5-percent reduction in the overall consumption of energy by properties owned by it. As part of the roadmap toward this goal, JYY chose the Themo Control for the optimization of electric underfloor heating in 2021.
As operators in the Finnish property sector are searching for effective ways to save energy, the Themo Control plays an important role. In rental properties, which is also the field of activity of JYY, property owners using the service can save approximately 50% on the cost of underfloor heating. At the same time, the carbon dioxide emissions produced by the users are also significantly reduced.
Themo Control allows for a substantial leap in responsibility
In the summer of 2021, JYY connected 597 apartments to the Themo Control. Over the next six months, renovated properties were added to the service. From the summer of 2022, Themo Control will be used in 891 JYY apartments to save energy. Based on the results of the initial pilot period, JYY seeks a reduction of as much as 600 000 kWh in annual consumption of electricity through the Themo Control.

Themo Control offers a solution to a problem occupying the minds of property business professionals
Effective and centralized control of electric underfloor heating has traditionally been impossible. Especially in rental apartments, the underfloor heating is often set to an unnecessarily high temperature. Apartments, where the thermostat has been turned completely off for an extended period, can also prove problematic. With the portal included as part of the Themo Control, controlling the heating in rooms with underfloor heating becomes substantially easier.

In addition to JYY, the Themo Control is used to optimize underfloor heating by the Helsinki City Housing Company; TVT Asunnot Oy, a rental housing provider owned by the City of Turku; Niiralan Kulma, a rental housing provider owned by the City of Kuopio; Kuopio Student Housing Company; and Pajulahti Sports Institute.
